Given the strong connection between reduction of poverty and access to sustainable energy, Tata Trusts are keen to support and implement replicable energy projects and interventions where underserved households become owners of assets and not just consumers — leading to a holistic eradication of poverty. The objectives of the Trusts’ energy initiative are aligned to UNDP’s and Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s goals of affordable and clean energy. Expanding infrastructure and upgrading technology to provide clean energy are crucial parameters that can both encourage growth and improve the country’s environment. Access to permanent electricity and clean cooking energy are enablers for good health, appropriate education, livelihood generation, environment protection and women empowerment.
