Innovation becomes the perfect tool to uplift lives

Since their inception, the Tata Trusts have been focusing on innovative technologies and approaches to enhance the quality of life of communities. The focus has been on bringing in high-quality talent and technologies to speed and scale up interventions. The Trusts have tied up with premier educational and technical institutions such as MIT, IIT, IIM, etc, and like-minded multinationals to design, develop and implement innovative programmes across different sectors such as education, digital literacy, health, livelihoods, etc.

  • Facilitating availability of social impact products (cookstoves): Initiated in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh, the Market Development Programme aims to provide clean cooking solutions to at least 60,000 households. Through this innovative process, the Trusts plan to promote quality, socially impactful products in villages in close coordination with the community institutions promoted. The programme emphasises on user behaviour as well as market awareness of quality products for rural households for clean cooking, drinking water, etc. Through this programme, innovative financing solutions are also provided to purchase products.
  • Internet Sathi: In collaboration with Google India, the Tata Trusts launched the Internet Sathi programme to promote awareness of the internet and its uses in the rural geographies where the Trusts operate. The objective is to empower rural women, and through them, create awareness among the larger community on internet and its benefits for their various needs. The ‘sathis’ would promote awareness of the internet and highlight its utility for seeking information across disparate sectors. The plan is to have 1,000 internet carts in rural villages, covering approximately 3,000 villages and 1 million people of which most will be women. The programme dovetails with the community institutions promoted by the Trusts and strengthens them through linkages with larger communities and providing internet as a service.

Tata Trusts have supported the formation of the Foundation for Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship (FISE).
