The Central India Initiative is one of the flagship initiatives of the Tata Trusts, focusing its work in the central Indian tribal belts of the country. It strives to bring households irreversibly out of poverty with increased life choices. To propel its mission, Collectives for Integrated Livelihood Initiatives (CInI), the nodal agency of the Trusts, is working on the promotion and strengthening of institutions that are the base for the core work being undertaken. Various livelihood prototypes in Agriculture, Livestock and Non-Timber Forest Produce have been promoted along with Water Resource Development. The principles of innovation and being demand-led, instead of a stereotypical approach, are at the core of initiatives.
CInI, in its mission 2020, envisages working with 300,000 households concentrated in 45 blocks across the four states of Jharkhand, Odisha, Maharashtra and Gujarat. This is the beginning of an ambitious proposal to bring about large-scale irreversible change in the Central Indian Tribal belt. Over 10 years, CInI hopes to reach 1 million households and develop 100 blocks as drivers of regional growth.
