Since its inception, Tata Trusts have been focusing on innovative technologies and approaches to enhance the quality of life of communities. The focus has been on bringing in high-quality talent and technologies to speed and scale up interventions. Tata Trusts have tied up with premier educational and technical institutions such as MIT, IIT, IIM, etc., and like-minded multinationals to design, develop and implement innovative programmes across different sectors such as education, digital literacy, health, livelihoods, etc.
Points for People: Points for People is a unique platform of Tata Trusts that enables an individual to contribute to the development of a healthy society by donating funds towards the growth of communities supported by Tata Trusts. Individuals can opt to convert loyalty points (earned through transactions with the Trusts’ partners) into donations or pay online. All donations are eligible for tax exemption.
Initially tribal individuals and tribal women led groups covered under the Central India Initiative — one of the flagship initiatives of Tata Trusts — will be the community that will benefit through Points for People. Thereafter, beneficiaries under other initiatives supported by Tata Trusts will be covered through Points for People.
- Internet Saathi: In collaboration with Google India, Tata Trusts launched the Internet Sathi programme to promote awareness of the internet and its uses in the rural geographies where the Trusts operate. The objective is to empower rural women, and through them, create awareness among the larger community on internet and its benefits for their various needs. The ‘sathis’ would promote awareness of the internet and highlight its utility for seeking information across disparate sectors. The plan is to have 1,000 internet carts in rural villages, covering approximately 3,000 villages and 1 million people of which most will be women. The programme dovetails with the community institutions promoted by Tata Trusts and strengthens them through linkages with larger communities and providing internet as a service.
- Project DRUV: Project DRUV is a new community development programme that uses innovative technology to help transform the lives of rural and remote populations in India. DRUV is a part of the ‘Digital India’ initiative launched by the Government of India. The project has been launched in Rajasthan and will be expanded to other states in the country soon. DRUV will make a difference to the quality of life of the underprivileged and underserved populations by bringing digital connectivity to television screens to help gain access to information and benefits that the community is entitled to. Project DRUV is an initiative of Tata Trusts in association with Prodea Systems.
- Foundation for Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship (FISE): Foundation for Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship (FISE) is promoted by Tata Trusts and plays a critical role in promoting social businesses with a revenue model that creates social value. The first-of its-kind initiative in India, and perhaps the world, in terms of thought, philosophy and process, is branded Social Alpha and will focus on social enterprises in the areas of livelihoods, education, health, water and shared services.
