The Government of Maharashtra and Tata Trusts launch the Career Guidance and Counselling Centre project in Amravati

  • Tata Trusts has partnered with Friends Union for Energising Lives to set up the Career Guidance and Counselling Centre in Amravati

Amravati: As part of the MoU signed between the Government of Maharashtra and Tata Trusts in January, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, inaugurated the Career Guidance and Counselling Centre (CGCC) in Amravati. The CGCC will focus on adolescent youth from rural areas, families of drought-affected farmers and underprivileged youth.

The Tata Trusts programme aims to reach out to students and create awareness on multiple career choices available to them and guide them on the way forward. The CGCC will also counsel students to make them aware of their unique skills, aptitude and interest. In addition, the programme will connect the students to vocational training institutes and industry partners as well.

As part of the MoU, Tata Trusts and the Skills Development and Entrepreneurship Development (SDED) Department of the Government of Maharashtra have agreed to collaborate to ensure the skilling, up-skilling and re-skilling of underprivileged / unemployed / under-employed youth in Maharashtra. While the SDED Department is entrusted with the role of policy making, planning, coordination, execution and monitoring of all the skill development and entrepreneurship schemes, CGCC in Amravati is one of the projects under the MoU.

Tata Trusts have identified Friends Union for Energising Lives (FUEL) as a partner to set up the CGCC in Amravati this year.

Under the leadership of Kiran Gitte, District Collector, Amravati, skills has emerged as a priority area for the government. Commenting on the programme Mr Gitte said, "The CGCC will be an important initiative for Amravati as 80 percent of local youth are unemployable, so providing them right career and skills counselling is a very crucial and directional step."

With skills training and development being a focus area of Tata Trusts, Laila Sethna, Senior Manager, Skills and Entrepreneurship Development, Tata Trusts, said, "We, at Tata Trusts, believe quality training, counselling and capacity building will not only aid individuals hone their skills and add value to their respective organisations, but also help the community as a whole. Set up with a view to skill, re-skill and up-skill youth, we are glad that this partnership has enabled the students to pursue their dreams."

Commenting on the launch, Ketan Deshpande, Founder Chairman, FUEL, said, "With the support of Tata Trusts, we will be empowering 10,000 youth with career and skills counselling that will prepare them for right jobs and higher education."
